Desire the Prize
I press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:14 (NRSV)
I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (NIV)
Driving past the local pool the other morning I saw a whole busload of kids jumping off and sprinting towards the door with bathers on and towels over their shoulders. It was only 6.30am and they were ready to go.
As I drove along I thought about what it takes to seek the Lord with that kind of passion.
Seeking the Lord requires persevering through the storms of life and remaining committed to the Lord.
It could mean getting up early in the morning to do your prayer and Bible study, maybe even before the sun comes up.
It might involve an illness that causes you to depend on the Lord in a way you’ve never known before.
What I have realised seeking the Lord begins with a desire to do whatever it takes to grow closer to him.
Are you seeking the Lord with that kind of passion? If not, why not?
Refuse to let apathy and laziness set in.
Don’t hit the snooze button on life and crawl back under the covers.
Your time on earth is short so make the most of every day you’re given.
Press on, my friend. Desire God more than anything or anyone else.
He is your prize. There is no greater reward!
Lord Jesus you are my reason for living. I want to desire you more than anything else. Give me a greater passion for you so that I can come to know you more.
