Being open, expectant to what God has for us.
I realised the other day that God, in His great love for us, by sending the Holy Spirit, has given us the ability to release more power from on high. Power from God to change our current circumstances. To release more of God into our lives and don’t we often need this?
Just like John the Baptist stated, less of me and more of Him. “He must become greater; I must become less.” John 3:30
God is so generous that it grieves Him when we don’t let Him in, and He has so much blessing for us that we don’t receive.
St Augustine found this out and shared this sentiment of grief, even turning into regret, once he knew of the love of God. “Belatedly I have loved thee, O Beauty so ancient and so new, belatedly I loved thee.”
We need more of this beauty, this goodness. More of God’s perspective. His Character. His will for us.
He IS good. The definition in the dictionary should read GOD = GOOD. Only good for us can come from Him. (Even discipline can be good for us – all parents know that).
So, it is possible to go into every situation of our lives expectant, excited, looking forward to what God has for us.
Remember, nothing can stop the LOVE of God for us. His giving is an expression of that LOVE. His Son dying for us is the TOTAL expression of that pure, everlasting Love.
In getting that Love to us, WE are the ones that can reject it, not receive it, or even stop it.
How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!1John 3
And I pray that you, being rooted and established in Love – (in God) may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the Love of Christ. Ephesians 3:17-18 NIV
Our human brains cannot comprehend the height, the width, the depth of God’s love for us. If you ever have studied the stars and planets – the Universe goes on and on. Astronomers are still discovering new stars and galaxies.
We are still discovering the magnitude of God’s love; how uncontainable it is. In other words, it cannot be put into a box. It’s unfathomable.
The only expression that we may be able to grasp this love is Jesus, the son of God dying for us. Out of Love for us, so that we would not perish, the Father sent His One and only Son. He asked Him to come off His throne, to take off His crown and come and live among the people He created. Then one day amongst ridicule and scorn, to pick up a crown of thorns, to pick up a heavy wooden cross and carry it to where He was going to be murdered.
We are securely grounded in this Love if we accept it (that’s the only condition), that gives us access to the Father and all that He is.
It gives us access to the power from the Spirit of God who lives within us. The power of supernatural gifts, of wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, reverence/awe and fear of the Lord.
So, for example, if we need to make some decisions, the Holy Spirit supplies us with wisdom from on high to make wise choices.
If we realise this, it changes everything. I am not just relying on myself and any great friends or companions to help me. I am relying on the Almighty, Creator of all to be my assistant. To be my adviser, to be my confidante, to be my encourager, to be my supplier etc. etc., Infinitum.
Oh Lord, reveal to us more of your love. That we may see more of you, dwell more with you and be excited to be with you, coming to know you more and being expectant to what you have for us. Amen.
